I have a soft spot for Charles Saatchi and his artistic ventures, mainly because of the fact that I happened to live in London during the end of the '80s and follow his original act. There is absolutely no denying of his contribution to contemporary art - whoever says the opposite lives in a parallel universe. Having caught those ground-breaking shows the habit stayed with me throughout so, whenever I find myself in London, I make a point of seeing his exhibitions, even though I feel the "WOW" factor is no longer present.
During Frieze Week 2011 the Saatchi Gallery & Channel 4 presented their annual New Sensations Prize exhibition (named after the seminal 1997 exhibition that forever changed the way we perceive contemporary art), an affair meant to discover and support the best young British artists. The exhibition was presented across the 22,000 sq. ft. of Victoria House, Bloomsbury, and showcased the work of 20 shortlisted artists. The scenery was overall impressive, with several grand scale works, mostly bearing typical Saatchi-esque qualities, but I can't say that I noted any names down for future reference. Add to that the fact the visit was on the go, due to lack of time, and the result is unidentified photographs simply to give the general feeling of the exhibition!
