Banksy’s latest sculpture,
Cardinal Sin, is a (faux) 18th century stone bust of a priest with its face sawn off and replaced with a mosaic of bathroom tiles, replicating the pixelated effect used in media for identity protection. Presumably a comment on the child abuse scandal in the Catholic church, the sculpture is on indefinite loan the to the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, England, where it is exhibited - according to Banksy’s specifications - in the 17th Century Old Masters gallery, alongside works by Van Dyck and Poussin, as well as 17th Century religious art.
Banksy described the statue as a Christmas present, and alerted us all to the seasonal spirit: "At this time of year it's easy to forget the true meaning of Christianity - the lies, the corruption, the abuse."
