Konstantinos Protopapas
My name is Konstantinos Protopapas and I am an academic painter. I studied Informatics in Greece and at 28 I decided to follow my dream and went to Barcelona to study academic drawing and painting at Barcelona Academy Of Art. Today, having finished my studies for two years now, I am teaching in the Academy drawing and painting and at the same time creating a first body of personal work, having as a strong base my academic training and as a goal to enrich it with more naturalistic elements and subjects. My goal for the future is to make my first solo show and if circumstances would allow it, to open my own academy in Greece which is something that I feel is needed.
The artwork
Together with Alexandra, the curator, we decided I will paint a still life with flowers. It’s a subject that I love because it’s very demanding regarding color and personally it gives me way more freedom in all of the aspects of painting in comparison with nude or portraiture. I wanted to play with strong colors in a classical composition and to use a golden vase for the first time, which I feel is something that will give the painting a more modern essence. It is probably the most daring painting of mine so far regarding technique and I hope that I stayed worthy in representing my subject with respect to nature. I hope that you like it and that you will enjoy it together with the other pieces of the exhibition.
“It is probably the most daring painting of mine so far regarding technique.”
