Vasilis Karouk
Vassilis Karouk’s latest work, focusses on the relationship between digital image and painting. The most common artistic approach regarding digital image, so far, has been one of trying to implement digital aesthetics, as they emerge from digital software tools, to a physical presence, a canvas for example. A somewhat embarrassing thesis regarding digital experience, according to the artist, probably in analogy with the early transformation of painting, after the birth of typography and photography.
Karouk, as a creator of moving image art himself, ambitiously attempts to fuse digital imagery into the painting experience. The result, although rooted in expressionistic tradition, as all of Karouk’s work, is more than anything related to a gif file.
Fire watch on the king’s chapel
As the story goes, “…throughout the 1930s, Hayek and Keynes, corresponded with each other, argued bitterly and found very little common ground. During the WW2, they even met under bizarre circumstances. Because of the bombing campaign against London, the LSC has been evacuated to Kenbridge. One night Keynes and Hayek, have been assigned to “fire watch” duty together, on the roof of the chapel of Kings College. Sadly we do not know what they talked about that night…”
“… ambitiously attempts to fuse digital imagery into the painting experience.”
